97Percent is pleased to announce that Mark Harvey has joined the organization as its newest board member. Harvey is a crisis manager and former national security official who has led infrastructure protection efforts in the Department of Homeland Security, the Intelligence Community, and the White House.

97Percent, whose mission is to reduce gun deaths by including gun owners in the solutions, has appointed Olivia Troye as the organization’s Executive Director. Ms. Troye is a highly regarded public policy expert who served in the White House as a senior advisor to former Vice President Mike Pence and has held a number of senior national security roles during her career. Since its founding in 2020, 97Percent has worked to reduce gun deaths by bringing gun owners to the table, conducting research, and leveraging technology to address issues we all agree upon that will make our communities safer.

Old Crow Medicine Show has released a powerful protest song “Louder Than Guns” in partnership with 97Percent, a bipartisan gun safety organization working to create researched-backed policies supported by both non-gun owners and gun owners. Recorded in the aftermath of the Covenant School shooting last month, the song was penned by bandleader Ketch Secor, who is a father of two and co-founder of The Episcopal School of Nashville. Furthering his commitment to the cause, Secor also will join 97Percent’s advisory board.

A new campaign launched by bipartisan group 97Percent Advocacy and Wunderman Thompson takes aim at gun safety by giving voice to a group usually shut out of the conversation: gun owners. “Aim for Change” is a petition in the form of a shooting range target that features four gun safety laws, which 97Percent’s research shows are supported by gun owners and could reduce gun-related homicides by 28% and gun-related suicides by 6%.

97Percent, a bipartisan gun safety organization, today released new academic research that found the overwhelming majority of gun owners are very concerned about the high level of gun violence in this country (66%) and more than 70% of them want to help reduce gun injuries and deaths, but their support for key laws is dependent on the specific policy provisions.
