A Word About Yesterday
Yesterday was another tragic day in America, as conservative influencer and Turning Point USA cofounder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University. We forcefully condemn this shocking act of violence. Our thoughts are with Kirk’s loved ones, especially his wife and two young children.
This tragedy is a heartbreaking reminder that gun violence does not discriminate. And it wasn’t the only one. Two students were injured and the shooter is dead following a shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado, also on Wednesday afternoon. Multiple gun tragedies in a day have become our new normal, but it doesn’t have to be this way. These terrible events underscore the urgent need for bipartisan collaboration to address the gun violence epidemic in America.
We cannot afford to let these senseless acts divide us further. The time has come to put aside partisan differences and find common ground on how to reduce gun violence and ensure the safety of all Americans. This is not about taking away rights, but about safeguarding the lives of our fellow citizens. And the truth is, most Americans agree.
At 97Percent, we are committed to fostering meaningful dialogue and action that transcends political divides. It’s time for leaders from both parties to unite, prioritize the protection of our communities, and take steps toward solutions that work for everyone.
We owe it to the victims of gun violence, to their families, and to future generations to create a safer society for all.
